Environmental Record

In 1998 PA EPA sought a $ 2.5 penalty against Hewlett Packard for violations against the Substance Control Act. The PA EPA alledged that HP had not filed a Pre-manufacturing Notice (PMN) before it began manufacturing and exporting chemicals. Without filing these PMN's, the EPA is unable to conduct risk analysis of new chemicals.

In 2002 Scorecard org ranked Hewlett Packard facilities in the top 10-20 percent for total environmental releases and top 30-40 percent for air releases of recognised developmental toxicants. It also showed that HP factory based in Puerto Rico released 246lbs of air released TRI pollutants, and had a total of 483,136lbs of production relted wastes.

In July 2007 Hewlett Packard announced that it had met it's target set in 2004 to re-cycle 1 billion s pounds of electronics and toner and ink cartridges. It has set a new goal of recycling a further 2 billion pounds of hardware by the end of 2010.

In 2006 Hewlett Packard recovered 187 million pounds of electronics, 73 percent More than it's closest competitor.

World Largest Seller of PC's

The Hewlett Packard company, commonly refered to as HP is an information technology corporation whose headquarters are based in Palo Alto, California.

HP specialises in building personal computers, notebook computers, servers, printers, calculators, software and home media devices among other technical related products.

The company which once catered primarily to engineering and medical markets - a line of business it spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999 - now markets to households and small business products such as printers, cameras and ink cartridges found in grocery and department stores.

HP posted US $91.7 Billion annual revenue in 2006 making it the Worlds largest technology seller in terms of sales.

In 2007 the revenue had increased to US $104 Billion making HP the first IT company to report revenues exceeding 100 Billion dollars.

HP is the World largest seller of PC's.
